Can I Mix Brands?

No. Each manufacturer has different diameters and varying types of gaskets. In addition, the clamping mechanisms are unique to each brand. No two vents are close enough in style to mix and match. Also, the Underwriters Laboratories (UL) does not test systems consisting of mixed manufacturer’s product, so there would be no safety listing.

What is the difference between stepped and tapered increasers/reducers?

Because of their shape, tapered increasers and reducers have better flow characteristics but vary in length. Stepped increasers/reducers are always the same length which can be good when run length is an issue. Tapered parts are preferred because they allow for condensate flow, but either will work.

Should FasNSeal be pitched towards or away from the appliance?

ProTech recommends that the system should be pitched back towards the appliance with a condensate drain. However, please refer to appliance manufacturer’s instructions for their recommendation.

In what direction does the pipe need to be installed?

Most systems require an appliance adapter first. The male end of the vent lengths need to point in the direction of condensate flow (downward slope).

Where can I buy FasNSeal?

ProTech Systems does not sell direct, but we have an extensive distributor network. You can find our distributor list by clicking here: List by State

Can FasNSeal be cut?

Although our Adjustable Vent Length is designed to eliminate cutting, there may be occasions when you must field cut a vent length.

When necessary, cut the male end only and keep in mind that a minimum of 2" vent length is needed to obtain a seal on the female end. Make a straight cut to ensure the gasket is completely covered. Sand all burrs off to avoid damaging the gasket during installation. When these procedures are followed, FasNSeal may safely be cut in the field.

Can the gaskets be replaced?

In the unlikely event that the gasket deteriorates, they can be replaced. In diameters larger than 6”, the gasket would need to be secured inside the pipe by using high temperature silicone.

Which termination is best?

Any of our terminations will work. The choice is personal preference.

Why is the Angled Bird Screen the only termination option for diameters larger than 6”?

Our Straight Bird Screen (FSBS) is not recommended in larger diameters due to water infiltration. Our Termination Tee and Termination Box can be specially ordered in diameters larger than 4".

Are there torque requirements on the clamp and locking band?

No. The clamps should be snug plus a 1/4" turn. There is no need to over tighten it.

Where do condensates need to be drained?

Check your local codes for proper condensate disposal.

How big of a hole do I need for my wall thimble?

The hole for our Wall Thimble needs to be 5” greater than the vent diameter. For example, if you’re using 4” diameter pipe, you’d need a 9” hole.

Does the roof jack (FSVRJ) slide over the vent pipe? What size do I need?

Yes, the roof jack acts like a sleeve to help meet clearances to combustibles as you pass through the roof. If you are using single wall FasNSeal, the roof jack is sized to accommodate whatever diameter exhaust vent you need. For example, if you are using 3" material than you would use a 3" Roof Jack. If you are using double wall, a roof jack is not necessary.
